I can't believe it's already been over a month! I had family here helping for the first 3 1/2 weeks of her life, so that flew by. We're really only into our 2nd week of taking care of her all by ourselves.
What. An. Adventure.
The first two weeks for me were so incredibly hard. My sister warned me about the baby blues, but you really don't know what it's like until you have them. And I thought baby blues meant you were sad about your baby, but it has nothing to do with your baby. It had everything to do with me. I cried a lot. And not just tears down the cheek cried, but like loud sobbing, all the time cried. I cried because I couldn't poo, because my stitches hurt, because breastfeeding was hard, because I was tired of bleeding, because I never got any sleep, because I didn't know how to take away her gas pains, because my body felt like it was hit by a truck, because my clothes still didn't fit, because my boobs hurt, because my nipples felt like they were on fire... because I didn't know what the freak I was doing. It was hard, and I cried all the time. Mitch and my mom were the two greatest people during those days I really can't think of how much worse it could have been without them.
After the first two weeks, things got significantly better. My body felt better, I was still exhausted but adjusting more to the lack of sleep. I wasn't such an emotional wreck and I had a lot of help when more family came and visited.
It was nice having family around to help, but it was also nice when everyone left and we got some family time. Some days are hard, and there is a lot of soothing (or attempted soothing) going on in this house. But she is amazing and we can't get enough of her! Some things about Tess during her first month of life:
- Loves to cuddle, she will sleep for hours in your arms, and about 10 minutes anywhere else
- Loves the shower, but hates getting out of it, so we've resorted to baths. She likes those too.
- As I said in the previous post, makes the cutest noises! A machine gun sound and a tiny Teradactyl screech.
- Hates wet diapers. She'll sit in poo (we don't let her for very long, don't worry) but if I don't know she has a wet one, she lets me know.
- Does not like when we let her cry for a few minutes. When we go to pick her up after she'll scowl at us forever.
- Loves to stare at the wall with pictures on it. Who needs a mobile when you've got white walls with dark frames?
- Adores her Aunt Sarah. Seriously, when she became unwound, only Aunt Sarah could calm her down.
- Holds her head up like a champ
- Has produced tears from day 1 ...pulls at the heart strings
- Is a very loud eater, as if she's never been fed before
- Stares at daddy
I have seriously been trying to get this post up for weeks! And since yesterday she turned 6 weeks old you get her most recent stats. She's currently a whopping 9 lbs 11 oz (so big!!) and 21 inches long and starting to get rolls! We're both going through the not very fun experience of thrush, and the poor thing has reflux. So, our recent days have been quite fun with too many doctor visits.
If I can figure out how to get videos from Mitch's phone onto my blog you'll get to hear her cute noises and sticking her tongue out at dad.
She's adorable mallory! Sounds a lot like Lily too:) It's a good thing they're cute because they make you a little crazy. Our doctor put Lily on prevacid for her reflux and it worked miracles for her pain, maybe worth a try if you feel like somethings still wrong.
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable! Youre doing great!! The first little while can be so hard! I'm glad its getting better though!
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely not the first new mom who's cried and you won't be the last :) I'm sure you're doing awesome! And Madison had to be on Prevacid for reflux too. Enjoy the sweet moments and try to forget the rest!!
ReplyDeletedear mallory - thanks for updating your blog (finally) i sincerely enjoyed it. but lets be honest, where are the pictures. im sure you dont want to be the kind of crazy mom that puts at least one new picture of her baby on facebook per day (like me) but i would like to see at least an updated one.
ReplyDeletethanks,
aunt sarah
