Oh dear sweet husband of mine..

My dear dear sweet husband is usually a very creative and good cook, but sometimes he gets a little carried away and does some unintentional cooking errors that I can't do anything but laugh about. Usually these errors come with cooking chili.
Chili! It's like the easiest thing in the entire world.

A little while ago, we were making chili, and Mitch was put in charge of adding the chili powder. A little bit later it smelled really strong, I mean really strong, it was filling up our whole apartment. I had Mitch go over the ingredients and then I heard "Ohhhhhh...1/4 teaspoon! HAHAHA" He added the whole packet of chili powder, well over 4 tablespoons.

So in our attempt to salvage our dinner, we tried diluting it with water, and more ingredients. Needless to say we had a LOT of chili to eat, and it tasted like chili powder--to the extreme.

Then today, we're making chili again--a simple five can chili you just combine all the cans and let it simmer--no chili powder needed--I thought we were safe. I suggested we have some cornbread too, but we needed an egg. We were out, and it was Sunday, so Mitch went to our neighbors and they so graciously gave us an egg. I was doing the dishes when he came back and he said, "Can I just crack this thing?" I said sure. Moments later when I went to finish mixing up the cornbread the mixing bowl was empty. The following conversation followed:

Me: I thought you cracked the egg?
Mitch: I did.
Me: Where is it?
Mitch: In the pot.
Me: The pot?
Mitch: Yeah! I already mixed it all up (Like he was proud of himself)
Me: In the chili?? Why did you put our cornbread egg in the chili?
Mitch: Ohh... I thought...
Me: HAHA, so...I'm making new chili. Or we can die...
Mitch: We won't die!
Me: SALMONELLA!

Mitch: No way, just boil it..
Me: K, well, now we need another egg so...be sure to tell Jordan WHY we need another egg

Then the following explanations ensued:

"You need to be more precise! I don't know what's going on."
"I was just adding some protein..."
"I was just so excited to help you cook...I wasn't paying attention. If I would've been paying attention I probably would've figured it out."
"Asians add egg to their soup all the time."
"I'm helping you practice for when we have kids, when I'm at work and they want to help you cook..."

I laughed about it forever...and the chili still turned out to be good :)
